Support for Women

Our work involves direct contact with women in the sex industry with our outreach program actively visiting women in brothels across Victoria.

Women can access a number of services:

Support for women and their families

  • A friendly, non-judgmental person to discuss issues with
  • Counselling for various issues, including sexual assault and domestic violence
  • Legal support - one to one support is available for women in the sex industry who may have to attend the Magistrates’ Court, Family Court, Children’s Court, at police stations or with legal aid

Information and Referrals

Information kits with up to date information about services such as housing, health, legal, migration, financial, sexual assault and domestic violence are continually maintained with each brothel visit.

  • Referrals are made to support services for women through Project Respect's network of organisations
  • Monthly newsletters for women in the sex industry
  • Special edition newsletters highlighting particular issues of concern for women, e.g., domestic violence and intervention orders

Education and social support

  • Education and employment for women who wish to leave the sex industry
  • Weekends away and other social and peer activities
  • Advocacy Training
  • Vegetable garden and other community activities
